Their match at Epic episode three had concluded, and the two women enter backstage with Coda cradling her agonizing ribs, covered in dark red, blotchy bruises. Her competitor for this night, Ursula, showed an equal measure of damage to her body. There’s a small split on her forehead, leaving a streak of blood running down the side of her face, likely from the Symphonic Elbow that had connected with it just moments before. She pats her friend’s shoulder.
Ursula Von Rossbach: You did well, Ms. Coda.
Ursula’s voice seemed a bit haggard, roughened by the near strangulation she had suffered. Her partner, on the other hand, appears to be exhausted.
Coda: I... feel as though I had overcome a mountain expedition. Is that a fitting metaphor?
She lowers her head, long brown hair covering her eyes as she stumbles to an equipment crate to sit atop. Ursula’s head inclines a little to the right as she looks upon Coda. The height of the box makes the two of them nearly eye-level for a change.
Ursula Von Rossbach: Mountains are much more gentle than I, Ms. Coda. You achieved your goal in the face of adversity utilizing tactical knowledge and adaptation. Despite the pain coursing through your body, you managed a victory that few can claim. You outsmarted me.
There is a small smile on her face as she makes this admission. There’s no smile on Coda’s face, though. Instead, her eyes are intense as she idly toys with the buckles on her arm guards.
Coda: It means little if I cannot become MultiUniversal Championship. I feel as though if I cannot accomplish that, all it would do is disappoint you.
A small nod is given, and the Lady Terminator turns and leans her lower back against the crate.
Ursula Von Rossbach: This is a competition. Why would I be disappointed if you were to lose? The odds would have been equal for either one of us, and if that was to happen, then so be it. Train harder and continue forward until the opportunity arrives again. Apply your growth and improvements in the opportunities that follow until eventually, it will be yours.
She meets Coda’s gaze, inviting the Pint-Sized Keiju to pick her head up slowly.
Ursula Von Rossbach: This loss tonight is not a defeat until I decide it is. That is how you should approach it as well. Loss is inevitable, defeat is a choice. How many times must I say it before others listen?
Coda lets out a hum of agreement, her back against the wall as she takes a deep breath.
Coda: I suppose you are right.
The Korean-American thinks for a moment.
Coda: I would not have won without your guidance. I do not know how to properly thank you for all you have done for me in recent months.
Ursula simply nods, accepting the compliment.
Ursula Von Rossbach: If you did not have the ability already there, guidance would not have helped you, Ms. Coda.
The smaller of the two finally smiles back, hopping off the equipment box to the floor again.
Coda: I trust you will help me prepare for Mariah Lopez?
Another nod of Ursula’s head.
Ursula Von Rossbach: Certainly. Her tape libraries are easily found for study. A subscription fee to the WWA promotion may be required, but since their closure, it is pennies on the dollar until someone decides to purchase it entirely.
Coda: Let us leave that for tomorrow. Tonight, it is time for ice cream.
The Lady Terminator looks to the floor for a brief moment and in a rare display, she permits herself a little chuckle. Coda bounces with untethered eagerness, joy overflowing out of her while the gnarly bruise is still on display.
Ursula Von Rossbach: Yes. Let us partake of ice cream.
She pushes off of the crate.
Ursula Von Rossbach: I do believe that it would be best to clean up and bandage ourselves first, however.
After a moment, Coda enthusiastically points down the hallway.
Coda: My sister Mari will take care of us.
Ursula Von Rossbach: Of course.
Ursula takes a walk with her friend to the athletic trainers’ office.
