Brianna and Raze would enter one of the bustling restaurants in Seattle, greeted by the aroma of cooked food. They found a table in the corner of the restaurant and settled into their seats as they took off their jackets. Looking over the menus they each would tell their waitress what they wanted and then sat there waiting for their food.
Brianna: Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule for this Raze.
Raze: No problem. I could see this was weighing on you.
Brianna: It has. I mean I have one group of people who are friends and then I have another group of friends. And they want to fight each other because some of them got taken out. And the ones that got taken out haven’t been very cordial with me lately.
Raze nods as he listens to her point of view and pushes aside the memories it evoked in him,
Raze: And that’s not even the hardest part, believe it or not. The hard part isn’t that they want to beat each other senseless; it’s that you might have to let them in order to have it put behind them.
Brianna: I think that is an honest answer that not one person has been able to give me. I just felt like they blamed me since I wasn’t taken out and they were. But I know they aren't mad at me, just mad they were attacked and with how it happened. Speaking of being attacked, are you ok? I mean I’m pretty sure you were attacked.
Raze: Me? Oh, you mean those guys with the disco ball masks? Nah, I was fine. They wanted Ricky, for some reason. If they want him, it’s all good. I see nothing worth protecting there, fuck him.
Brianna: I guess my problem is that I care too much. Ailyn said that comes from being all business all the time. It makes sense considering they were attacked and I am sitting here wanting them not to be mad at me that I wasn’t attacked but off-limits. It just makes me also wonder why I was off-limits from the attacks. But yeah, Ricky has done a lot of shit to people to warrant not protecting him.
He doesn’t answer at first, weighing up the possibilities in his head, as well as Brianna’s own outlook. With a nod, he speaks up.
Raze: I understand that. Ailyn could be right, maybe you do care too much, but then, can you really care too much about friends? You being off-limits is interesting, I wonder if maybe someone’s eager to see what you do next. If that is the case, move carefully. If someone wants to see what you’ll do, chances are they’d be expecting you to lash out. Maybe they want to see if you’re worth approaching, in their eyes. Conniving people try to play and cover so many angles, and so you need to be able to roll with any punches and use anything you’ve learned about them in the process. It’s a painful route, but it works. Still, it might be worth observing a little bit longer.
Brianna: They are all too busy being angry at each other that they are all pretty much fighting each other. I just can’t keep up with who is fighting who! -laughs- But you are right. I should take myself out of the equation, be glad that I wasn’t one of the ones taken out, and observe anything and everything that goes on. And in the process have fun.
Raze is about to respond when the server arrives at their table, with steaming plates of the food they had ordered, the aroma making him feel like he hadn’t eaten in days. When the plates are set down, he gives a quick thanks and turns his attention back to Brianna.
Raze: Exactly. These wars, they get bloody, they get brutal, and it’s only reasonable that you don’t want your friends getting hurt, but think of this: as much as it’ll hurt them, there are lessons there for them to learn, if they pay attention. The back and forth, the tit for tat, the bloody messes, it’ll make them stronger. They’ll be forged like steel, once it’s all said and done.
The moment he finishes talking, he picks up the loaded burger and takes a bite.
Brianna: Thanks, I feel better about it now. So I’ll just observe and see what takes place. If they get mad then they get mad, until I find out why I’m off-limits it isn’t my fault what happens to them.
She was next to grab her burger taking a bite before sitting it back down. She then chewed it up and quickly took a drink of her soda as the food was still hot.
Brianna: Oh my gosh that is hot food.
Her reaction gets a quiet chuckle from the once Dread King.
Raze: It’s just out the kitchen, of course it is.
He lets the rest of the laugh out of his system before he continues.
Raze: There’s a lot of understandable feelings in the air. Travis is worried and pissed off, for one. I get it, sometimes, hesitation can lead to shit like this, but patience can also help end it when the right time comes. The more people react and retaliate from emotion, rather than calm, tactical choices, the more it’ll escalate. I’ll be honest, some of them are gonna love that part. I know I used to.
Brianna: You’re really smart when it comes to this stuff. People should really stop and listen to you when they get the chance to. And I get what you are saying about everything. I am going to try and not let my emotions get the best of me about things going on there. Is there anything else that you can give me your awesome wisdom about?
Raze: If only I’d been wise enough to listen to my gut on Glory, I might have seen through that little trick. Rookie mistake.
He shakes his head as he looks down at the table to get his drink, when he suddenly stops and looks back at Brianna.
Raze: I think that’d be the other thing. Listen to your gut. Ignore it and you’ll fuck up like I did. Also, watch that hand. It’s still injured and therefore, a major target. Put a brace on it if you’re going to attack with it before it fully heals up.
Brianna: Right. I’m injured. I plan to make sure it’s covered well and safe to go work my match. Ailyn and I have to face Travis and William. I don’t want to leave her without a partner. But if I know Travis, or Trav as she calls him, then I know he would just treat it as a training match for her.
Raze: Just keep your heads on a swivel, all of you. Remember what at least some of you have in common right now.
He picks up his burger for another bite, chewing his way through the mouthful as he waits to see if she takes his meaning.
Brianna: You have a point. I won’t forget. This food is good. The burger I got the last time in Long Beach was crappy.
Raze: The local music scene’s better here too.
Brianna: Maybe you can take me to listen to some of it? If there is any live music anywhere tonight that is.
She would take hold of her burger and finish it before taking another drink of soda, setting the glass down on the table.
Raze: This is Seattle.
He says it with a smile, almost like it’s a point of either pride or simply mild celebration.
Raze: There’s always something going, you just need to look for it. I wonder if Blistered Fist is playing today. It’s a daft name, but it’s good old punk with just a touch of thrash metal. Nice mix.
Brianna: So let’s find out! You can take me to see them if they are.
Raze: Hell yeah, and even if they’re not, someone’ll be out there to make us deaf. It’s a roll of the dice, but it can be a good way to discover new stuff. I’ll finish this and get the cheque, you look on your phone, see who’s on. Solid?
Brianna: Yeah, go ahead and pay.
Taking out her phone from her pocket, Brianna would get on the net and look up who was playing that night.
Brianna: There is The Devil Wears Prada and Fit for a King.
Raze: On the same booking? Oh, this could be a fun night. Devil aren’t bad, but Fit for a King are fucking excellent. How long have we got?
Brianna: It starts at seven. At the Showbox SoDo SoDo? Do you know that place?
Raze: Yep, First Avenue, great venue. Seen a whole bunch of bands play there, popular wee place too. You’ll see why once we’re in.
Brianna: Alright then we should head there soon.
Raze: Definitely.
He finishes his burger and washes it down with his drink.
Raze: You ready?
Brianna: I am. -stands up- Ailyn would freak out. I wasn't thinking business right now, that I was going to listen to music.
She laughed a bit then smoothed out her outfit.
Raze smiles, amused at the idea.
Raze: First time for everything. I’d better go pay.
He grabs his leather jacket, putting it on as he gets up. He is about to walk past Brianna, when something stops him, right next to her.
Raze: Before I forget, mosh pits are a distinct possibility. Be ready.
With what he terms a fair warning, he heads up to pay the bill.
Brianna: Thanks for taking the time out of your schedule for this Raze.
Raze: No problem. I could see this was weighing on you.
