The 1WM Glory Champion Douglas Crane is sitting in his VIP suite of The Hangar, wearing a black suit and tie with a red collar shirt and black boots. Everyone is long gone, the show having ended hours ago, all the lights off except for emergency exit signs and a couple of lamps here on his suite. The Glory championship sits on his lap, and he slowly moves the index finger of his right hand over it, as if drawing something. He looks up at the camera, his eye cold stare sending chills down your spine, don’t deny it.
Crane: Brianna Matthews…
He pauses.
Crane: Excuse me, Mrs. Stanton…
He pauses again.
Crane: No, Ms. Matthews is better, and you want to know why? Because this is who you are, not some general manager’s side piece… Not some GM’s eye candy while he talks non-sense and picks fights with people, or even, ‘beings’ he knows he can’t defeat. Yeah, I was watching backstage at Glory 37…
You say that being married to Ricky doesn’t define your ability in the ring and we agree, so I’m not speaking to ‘the wife’ but to The Phoenix, to the one that pushed me to my limit when we first faced each other almost a year ago at Legendary 41… Do you remember Bri? It might have been “Hot Girl Summer”, but it was “Sad Girl’s Night” as we put you to sleep with our cobra clutch.
RELEASE ME!
Crane: Easy. We gave you the respect due then because you refused to tap out, and simply passed out from the pain… Even though we were victorious, I knew we had not seen the last of you… But for almost a whole year to go by before we meet again, well, let’s just say it’s a little longer than we thought… If I’m honest, we also thought one of us would have been champion a lot sooner than that, but it just goes to show how competitive 1WM is. Of course, I got a chance earlier but came up just a little short in becoming the Pride (of 1WM) Champion. You on the other hand, weren’t even included in the tournament. Is that the moment you started to feel overlooked despite your efforts? We wonder…
He smirks.
Crane: You made a lot of claims in your interview tonight, and once again, yes, I was watching backstage… You claimed to the be the hardest-working wrestler, but since we last met, who is the one that stands as the Glory champion? You think this was handed to me? No, I had to go through a tough son of a bitch to win it, our friendship be damned. I had to go through ‘your friend’ to retain it, who was also in the Pride of 1WM tournament by the way… So, is he really your friend, when he is getting the opportunities, you don’t? Better question, do you still think you have been working harder than us, Bri?
WE DO NOT THINK SO!
Crane: Relax. Then you claimed 1WM is your house, is that because your husband runs it and lets you hold the keys? Please Bri, you’re better than this… You’re not the one that will be kicking doors down because I already knocked them all off the hinges. Everyone knows, whether they want to admit it or not, that from the moment I won the Glory championship, this is now my show!
WE ARE ITS CHAMPION!
Crane: Yes. But call it your house if you want, we’re the ones living in it, rent free.
You claimed you out-performing everyone, match of the night every time, but were you in the main event of this past Glory? No, I was, and now you are going to finally be because I’m in it. When was the last time you main evented, anything, on your own? Oh, that’s right, you’re being held back, it’s not fair.
BOO F’N HOO!
Crane: Enough. Well, you are getting held back no-longer, as you get a shot at my title. Silas was next in line, but I have gladly allowed you to skip the line for our rematch, even though he’s the former champion that never got a rematch. Thanks for the history lesson… But clearly, he got other priorities as he got a pride title shot so he’s alright.
We do hope you are “feeling cute”, as you said, coming after my title even though the title you really want, oh, no, wait, I’m sorry, the title that is rightfully yours, is the World championship. I’m sorry but how do you have rights to that title, let alone any? Because you’ve been here longer than most without any singles gold to show for it? We think you need to calm down and focus, and right now your focus should be on me and my championship… You want the glory? Come and try to take it, prove to the world that you are championship material, prove that you can beat a monster that has only been defeated once in singles matches since you and I met last July.
He grabs the title, stands up and drapes it over his shoulder.
Crane: Before I let you go, I noticed you were at ringside, watching me, did you enjoy the match? Did you have any flashbacks? Am I more intimidating now? Let him answer that for you…
YES I AM.
Crane: But not only did I see you, I heard you… You said my days are numbered as champion… You are right, they are… currently numbered at 72 and will go well into the triple digits, because I’m not losing this to you at Glory 38…
I’m not losing it any time soon.
THE GLORY IS ALL MINE.
Crane adjust his tie, takes a deep breath, calming himself down and exits.
